Note: In Chinese societies, public understanding of health and disease is shaped by both modern Western medical science as well as concepts and knowledge arising from traditional Chinese medicine. The continuing popularity of traditional Chinese medicine is also a good illustration of how Chinese traditions and customs have not only survived in modern Chinese societies but are indeed still very important to our everyday life.
